Future Generation Wind should seek a variance from the Bourne Board of Health

Bourne Board of Health Variance & Future Generation Wind Turbines

Mr. Keith Mann appeared before the Bourne Board of Health last December to discuss his plans to install four massive 500 foot wind turbines in Plymouth, MA, on the border of Bourne known as Future Generation Wind (FGW).

The wind turbines would be the largest every installed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and as large, or larger, than any land-based wind turbines in North America.

These industrial machines of colossal proportions will be sited in close proximity to Bourne residents and situated across from some densely populated neighborhoods, over water, across Buzzards Bay, which will cause the adverse impacts from the wind turbine noise to be far more pronounced than a similar installation that is separated from homeowners by land whose contours might attenuate some of the noise.

Additionally, it is a well-established fact that multiple large wind turbines in an installation are far more harmful than a single large-scale generator since the noise signatures can interact with each other, and even become synchronized.

It is also worthy of note that the distance between these industrial machines, which are approximately 100 feet taller and have a much wider rotor diameter than the Vestas V82 wind turbines in Falmouth

When Mr. Mann appeared before the Board of Health last December, members of the BoH expressed serious misgivings about the potential adverse impacts of the project upon the health and well-being, and the quality of life, of Bourne residents.

Numerous members of the Board of Health, including the chair, repeatedly advised Mr. Mann that Future Generation Wind should seek a variance from the Bourne Board of Health in order to proceed with the project -- and presumably present sufficient information to reassure the Board that the proposed project would not violate the health and safety standards in Bourne and expose Bourne residents to a significant health hazard.
