Cape Cod Traffic: 12-Mile Backup As Fourth of July Weekend Ends

Traffic started to build Sunday afternoon and is expected to get worse

Cape Cod traffic started to build Sunday afternoon for the end of the Fourth of July weekend.

There was a 12-mile backup to the Sagamore Bridge and a 3-mile backup to the Bourne Bridge as of 1 p.m.—and it’s only going to get worse as the afternoon rolls on.

Traffic congestion this Fourth of July weekend is expected to be the heaviest in eight years, fueled by low gas prices. Gas is averaging about $2.75 a gallon statewide—the lowest in five years for a Fourth of July weekend.
