Election 2012: Selectman Candidate John Moody

All week Plymouth Patch is running candidate profiles as part of our Plymouth Election coverage. Today we meet candidate for Selectman John Moody. Moody is running against three opponents, Robert Morgan, Dick Quintal and Ken Tavares.

Office: Selectman

Name: John R. Moody

Age: 55

Address: 47 Donna Drive

Background: As a member of Plymouth’s Advisory and Finance Committee for 6 Β½ years, I have acquired a deep understanding of the Town’s finances, operations and the issues confronting Plymouth. Employed at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts for 23 years in a variety of managerial roles in finance, audit and operations, I have acquired substantial experience in strategy development, process improvement, detailed analytics, and building decision-making consensus that I believe would benefit Plymouth. I also serve as a member of the PCIS School Council and recently served on the School Redistricting Sub-Committee. I’m a 16-year resident of Plymouth and am formally educated in Nursing and Journalism.

Reasons for running: To bring greater emphasis on long-range thinking about our community and a more open and collaborative decision-making process among our elected and appointed officials. Plymouth is at a critical point in its evolution and the decisions we make today will have a substantial impact on what Plymouth will be in the years to come. Some of the most critical issues confronting us that require broader collaboration are:

  • Growth of our Commercial & Industrial tax base to mitigate the residential tax burden
  • Addressing necessary fixes at Pilgrim and initiating discussions about the impact decommissioning (either next year or 20 years from now) will have on our community
  • Taking action to implement a solid waste management solution that is more fitting for a community of 60,000 residents
  • Preserving historical assets (like the 1820 Court House) that are important to our community’s character and its tourism industry
  • Improving quality educational outcomes of our schools
