Whouleyβs latest memoir highlights her experiences with her mother, who suffered from Alzheimerβs disease. With honesty and humor, the author shares the tough, the tender, the heart-wrenching, and the laugh-or-youβll-cry experiences of an Alzheimerβs caregiver. βCaregiving can feel isolatingβespecially when dementia is involved,β states Whouley, who hopes her book will offer readers a fresh perspective on relating to persons with organic memory loss. Wednesdayβs discussion will offer support to caregivers, family members, and friends who are facing challenges and looking for new solutions.
Remembering the Music was recently named Best of the Best by the American Library Associationβone of just eighteen University Press books in 2012 to receive this distinction. The book has also received acclaim from independent booksellers, who selected Remembering the Music as an Indie Bound Next Great Read, and from a range of media, including USA Today, Salon, and The Boston Globe.
