Civil War Reenactment on the Training Green

Please join town officials, veterans, and the 22nd Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry for a drill and encampment reenactment on the in Plymouth from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12. 

The event is being held to celebrate the 150 year anniversary of the start of the Civil War and the 300th year anniversary of the establishment of the . 

This event will also kick off the Plymouth Board of Selectmen’s efforts to begin restoration work at the Civil War Monument that was dedicated in 1869 on the Training Green. 

Come visit the Training Green Nov. 12 and see the reenactors from the 22nd Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry.  Join all of us as we continue to celebrate history at that site.

Plymouth Training Green “Civil War Living History”

Schedule of Activities:

10 a.m. - Encampment opens to the public. Company roll call and inspection.

10:30 a.m. - Company drill, including firing demonstrations

11 a.m. - Kids muster. Using stick “muskets,” any willing youngsters will be instructed in a bit of basic drill and how to form a company.  A few volunteers will be sought to try on some reproduction coats and gear to get a sense of what it was like to wear a Civil War uniform.

11:45 a.m. Civil War “Fashion Show.” Soldiers and civilians will discuss their uniforms, gear and attire.

12:30 p.m. - United States Sanitary Commission. Our female auxiliary members will speak about the important work of women in the Sanitary Commission.

1 p.m. - Company drill, including firing demonstrations

1:30 p.m. - Kids muster

2 p.m. - Civil War “Fashion Show”

2:30 p.m. - Company drill, including firing demonstrations

3:30 p.m. -  Closing Ceremony. Board of Selectmen. Brief remarks on Plymouth soldiers in the Civil War, salute to the Monument and the men of Plymouth listed thereon.
