invites you to encounter the personal stories of Plymouth's immigrant families from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 26.
Enjoy real-life tales of the immigrant experience in Plymouth and a tantalizing selection of ethnic noshes under a big striped tent overlooking the harbor at the Hedge House, 126 Water Street. Learn about growing up Irish in a town without a St. Patrick's Day parade, Italians who did and didn't live in North Plymouth, and more surprising tales of local ethnicity.
Speakers include members of the Donelan family, βIrish Pilgrimsβ who moved to Plymouth from Boston in the 1950s; North Plymouth resident Enzo Monti, whose parents emigrated from Bologna in the 1910s; Annette Sirrico Talbot, who grew up in downtown Plymouthβs ethnically diverse South Street neighborhood; Manny Valente, a Plymouth native whose father arrived from the Azores in 1914 and immediately found work at the Plymouth Cordage Company; and local historian Karin Goldstein, who has extensively researched Plymouthβs Jewish community. The evening includes a selection of ethnic dishes including pasta provided by Mamma Miaβs Restaurant, Portuguese fava beans, horn bread and homemade German pretzels.
