From TV’s popular Mad Men series to speakeasy-style cocktail bars, retro-style cocktail culture is back in vogue. But few of us realize the place that the cocktail has in history. Many of today's popular cocktails originated 100, 200, even 300 years ago. Come raise a glass to the most fabled and favorite libations at Plimoth Planation’s A Night of Wine & Spirits on Saturday, October 27. The event will begin at 6 p.m. at Plimoth Plantation and includes a “Lost and Forgotten” cocktail and wine tasting demonstration, live music, silent auction, hors d’oeuvres, dancing and more. Tickets are $100 per couple and $75 for the individual. Tickets can be purchased online at www.plimoth.org or by contacting Ellis Brewster at 508-746-1622, ext. 8226.
“We believe in preserving the past at Plimoth Plantation, and A Night of Wine & Spirits is a fun way to jump into history for a great cause,” said Courtney Roy-Branigan, Plimoth Plantation’s Director of Development.
“The golden age of the cocktail was the late 1800s through the 1920s, and people are curious about cocktail culture and drinks from that era. Restaurants and bars are reviving the drinks of that time period—and are responding to the desire for old-school techniques, flavors and cocktail craft.”
In addition to its popular living history exhibits, Plimoth Plantation offers a variety of events and activities to the surrounding community, including Plimoth Cinema, food and film events, Lunch & Learn lectures, Plymouth Farmers’ Market, dining experiences, special exhibits and much more.
“Plimoth Plantation offers unique and entertaining ways of learning something new,” added Roy-Branigan. “I’m looking forward to a great turnout at this event, and hope we can do more of these evenings that showcase Plimoth Plantation in a new light. I think we’ll see a nice mix of museum friends and neighbors, cocktail aficionados, history buffs, and local people looking to have a good time in a cool atmosphere while supporting the Museum’s educational mission.”
