The Kingston Public Library and the publishers of edible South Shore magazine present the latest in their ongoing series of programs about the phenomenon of "eating locally." The South Shore Locavores will meet at Sampson Hall (popularly known as the Beal House) at 222 Main Street in Kingston, on Monday, June 27th, at 7 p.m.
The June session is Cheese tasting! Join the Locavores in exploring local and domestic cheeses in a guided tasting with Bob and Mary Gonsalves, owners of Bloomy Rind, a unique cheese shop and gourmet cafe located in Hingham. Bob graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and has spent the last twenty years cooking at such restaurants as L’Espalier, Olives, Figs, English is Italian (NYC) and Beso (Los Angeles). Most recently, he was the executive chef for Todd English Enterprises. Mary also has a background in the restaurant industry; she worked front of the house operations at several California restaurants. A lifelong cheese lover, Mary educated herself about the art of cheese making over the course of many years. By working closely with the artisans who produce it, she sources an incredible selection of cheese for Bloomy Rind. With her bubbly personality, she is a natural at sharing her passion for cheese with her customers.
All are invited to come at 6:45 to register, mingle, and get some refreshments before the program starts. Participants are encouraged to bring a snack to share. There will be samples and door prizes. The gatherings are free. However, donations of up to $5 will be gratefully accepted to help cover expenses and to supplement the Library book budget.
TEAM UP AGAINST HUNGER: In an effort to help fight hunger on the South Shore, non-perishable foods are collected at the beginning of each gathering. Items are donated to the Greater Plymouth Food Warehouse.
