'The Corn Planting' Play at the Harlow Old Fort House

The Plymouth Antiquarian Society and third-grade students from Nathaniel Morton Elementary School will present The Corn Planting play at the Harlow Old Fort House at 119 Sandwich Street, PlymouthΒ on Thursday May 31 at 10 am.Β

Since the early 1920s, Plymouth schoolchildren have acted in versions of this historical re-enactment, originally created by local author Helen T. Briggs, which examines the early experiences of the Pilgrim settlers and Wampanoag Indians in 1621.

Nathaniel Morton students, dressed in period style costumes to portray English settlers and Native American residents, will carry on the almost 80 -year-old performance tradition. Performances of The Corn Planting are held outdoors on the grounds of the Harlow Old Fort House, and are free and open to the public. The young actors actually plant corn, using fish as fertilizer, during one of the scenes. The event is sponsored by the Plymouth Antiquarian Society.
