Considered βthe Esplanade Alternative,β conductor Steven Karidoyanes and the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra perform a free, festive and family-friendly Independence Day event, The Spooner Family Trust Fourth of July Concert.Β Actress and author Marianne Leone Cooper reads excerpts from the Declaration of Independence accompanied by a lush symphonic score.Β Tchaikovskyβs 1812 Overture includes a finale augmented by the Plymouth High Schools Marching Band, Bonnie J. Holmes, director, and howitzer cannons operated by the Army National Guard. East Coast Acappella provides the intermission entertainment. The program includes two centennial observances when the orchestra performs Sousaβs The National Game March celebrating Fenway Park, and film music from Titanic, remembering that grand vesselβs only voyage.
The concert takes place in historic Pilgrim Memorial State Park on the Plymouth Waterfront near the Plymouth Rock Portico and across from the natural amphitheater of Coleβs Hill.
