Flood Watch in Plymouth

There will be periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms this afternoon until Thursday.

There is a flood watch in effect for portions of Southeastern Massachusetts from 5 p.m. until Thursday morning.

The flooding is expected to hit the counties Barnstable, Bristol, Dukes, Nantucket and Plymouth, according to a National Weather Service alert.

According to the alert, there will be periods of heavy rain and embedded thunderstorms that may lead to rainfalls through Thursday.

The area may get between 3 and 6 inches of rain, National Weather Service reported.

Small streams may quickly rise and the rain could lead to flooding at locations susceptible to flooding including urban streets with poor drainage, basements and low-lying areas.
