Gas Prices Way Down in Massachusetts

Prices at the pump have dropped 10 cents since last week, AAA says.

With rapidly dropping gas prices, it’s easier to plan that trip over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s house this winter.

Lowering prices at the pump means a little extra cash in your pockets for the holidays, and that extra money just keeps growing. The average price of gas in Massachusetts, according to AAA-Southern New England, has dropped 10 cents since last week.

That puts Massachusetts at an average gas price of $2.55, a full 75 cents lower than it was at this point last year.

Massachusetts is still 13 cents above the national average, however, which is padded by some states seeing prices below $2.

Yet, as the average driver jumps for joy over the lowest gas prices the U.S. has seen in four years, Wall Street Journal analysts worry over the risks a quick decline in crude oil prices has brought to the stock market. The Journal reports U.S. energy producers were hit hard by the most recent slide.

But a few lost stocks may not be the only downfall of low gas prices. The New York Post reports that some economists predict a global recession similar to the 2009 recession following crude oil prices that fell to $30 a gallon.
