#GivingTuesday is a movement to channel the generous spirit of the holiday season to inspire action around charitable giving. It culminates with this global day of giving on December 2, 2014. The effort harnesses the collective power of social media and partners including charities, families, businesses and individuals and seeks to inspire people to take action to improve their local communities, and to give back in better, smarter ways. Much the same way that Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become synonymous with shopping and consumerism, the aim is for #GivingTuesday to become known as a day of charitable giving. For more information about the movement, visit www.givingtuesday.org, or find it on Facebook at www.facebook.com/GivingTuesday.

Heidrea for Heroes was founded by Marine Corps veterans and business partners, Jesse Brown and Matthew Mastroianni. Both men served in the military and are committed to providing assistance, motivation, and pathways to success for veterans in various stages of adjustment. With a long legacy of military service in each of their families, they have a firsthand understanding of the daily challenges veterans and their families face, and a commitment to provide meaningful change and transformational opportunities to improve lives.

Heidrea for Heroes provides adaptive home and vehicle modifications, wheelchair ramps, mobility equipment, and individualized veteran/family support that aim to inspire and motivate veterans and families to move forward. Jesse Brown, a co-founder of Heidrea for Heroes and a resident of Plymouth, MA, said “Our United States veterans have given so much of themselves – by providing equipment, tools, and resources that offer positive direction during unexpected hardships, we honor their service.”

Heidrea for Heroes has an application process for veterans in need of assistance and welcomes Massachusetts veterans of any age to submit. Applications and more information about the organization can be found online at www.heidrea4heroes.org, or you can call 774-773-3951. Family/friends of veterans can also inquire or apply on their behalf.

The need to help veterans has never been more acute. Each day, 22 veterans commit suicide; and nationally, one of every five suicides is a veteran. Experts believe that between 11% and 20% of veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars suffer from PTSD, which is the leading cause of homelessness and unemployment among veterans. Heidrea for Heroes maintains offices at 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 300, Plymouth, MA.
