Hurricane Irene Is Hit or Miss at this Point

The National Weather Service predicts a low percent chance that Hurricane Irene, now a Category 3 storm, will hit the South Shore, but cautions residents to be safe.

While people in the South are busy buying jugs of water and canned food, and screwing sheets of plywood over their windows, the National Weather Service has not yet decided whether we in Plymouth should be concerned.

"Hurricane Irene will impact Southern New England to some degree. Although the specifics as to Irene's track are uncertain," the Weather Service stated in a hazardous weather outlook.

The NWS is predicting rain throughout beginning Friday and continuing through the weekend before the hurricane reaches New England. Rain could be heavy at times Saturday and Sunday. Irene should arrive in or near New England by Sunday evening.
