SEE: Man Found by Police Helicopter After Crashing in 5th OUI

John Layton was spotted by infrared technology hiding in the woods after crashing on a highway ramp.

Using a helicopter with infrared vision, police found a man hiding in the woods on New Year's Eve, then arrested him for his fifth OUI.

John Layton, 45, of Boston was found by the State Police Airwing lying in the woods. State troopers were directed by the aircraft to his position, where he was laying prone about 30 feet from the wood line, and arrested him.

Troopers were searching for the operator of a blue 2000 Nissan Quest that was found crashed on the ramp of Route 25 eastbound from Route 195 eastbound in Wareham. Trooper Austin Dooley found the unattended vehicle after reports of a single-vehicle crash. The Nissan had two different registration plates.

Witnesses told police the driver fled into the woods.

State Police with K9 units, Wareham Police, and the Airwing aided in the arrest.

Layton was charged with operating a motor vehicle with license revoked; OUI liquor, fifth offense; OUI while license suspended for OUI; Attaching plates; Unregistered motor vehicle; Uninsured motor vehicle; Larceny under $250; Receiving stolen property - $250; Leaving scene of property damage; Negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

Layton will be arraigned in Wareham District Court Tuesday.
