Man Charged In Fatal Shooting Of Golden Retriever

Lakeville police said a golden retriever named Walle was shot and killed by neighbor Mark Vasseur over the weekend.

LAKEVILLE, MA β€” A Lakeville man was arrested after he shot and killed a neighbor's dog, police announced Thursday. Mark J. Vasseur, 61, was charged with malicious killing of a domesticated animal and scheduled for an arraignment in Wareham District Court. The dog was a golden retriever named Walle.

Vasseur called police after the shooting, authorities said.

"The caller (homeowner) stated he had shot a dog on his property," Lakeville poice said in a statement. "The caller further stated the dog was trying to get at his chickens and a golden retriever attacked him."

Lakeville is in Plymouth County just east of Taunton.
