MassDOT Asks Public Input on Cape Cod Canal Streets and Bridges

The first in a series of public meetings to improve the condition of Cape Cod Canal transportation has been set for Jan. 15.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has noticed the deteriorating condition of streets and bridges around the Cape Cod Canal area and they need your help to fix the problem.

MassDOT invites residents who live around the Cape Cod area and who travel on bridges from the mainland to the island to voice their concerns and suggestions about repairing bridges and streets in the area.

The department will hold several sessions to complete the Cape Cod Canal Area Transportation Study.

The study will focus mainly on the Sagamore and Bourne Bridges and the moveable rail bridge across the Cape Cod Canal. MassDOT said these bridges “are the primary means of access to and from the mainland for the 15 towns and 215,000 people who live on Cape Cod.”

MassDOT hopes the study will result in a package of short, medium and long-term recommendations for improvement.
