Mooseheart Boys Coming to Plymouth July 30

The Plymouth Moose Lodge in Manomet is hosting 8 boys ages 8-12 from the Loyal Order of Moose's child city, Mooseheart, IL, while they visit New England in July and August.

Mooseheart provides complete home care, education and training for youth whose families are unable, for a wide variety of reasons, to care for them. Some have lost one or both parents; others are living in environments that are simply not conducive to healthy growth and development.

At Mooseheart, "children and teens live in one of approximately 30 residences, each designed like a spacious single-family residence. Each is home for six to 12 children," according to the Moose International website.

At Mooseheart, these children are given a nurturing place to live, from nursery through grade 12 (including college if they qualify), free of charge.

The many Moose fraternal lodges in New England sponsor a house at the Mooseheart campus.

Founded in 1913 by the Moose fraternal organization, Mooseheart is supported completely through private donations -- the great majority of which come from the 1.1 million men and women of the Moose fraternal organization, in more than 1,700 Lodges and 1,600 Chapters located throughout the US, Canada, Great Britain and Bermuda.  Moose International headquarters is located on the Mooseheart campus.  Mooseheart will celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2013.

Ralph "Woody" Whitman of Plymouth, Governor of the Plymouth Moose Lodge, said "Once a year, the New England Home children go on vacation, and this year they are spending 5 days in Massachusetts, including time time in Chicopee, North Reading and Plymouth."

The Plymouth lodge officers have been planning over the last month to show the boys a fun time in the area.  On Wednesday July 30, the Mooseheart boys will receive a tour of Plymouth and its attractions, followed by dinner at the Lodge at 601 State Road, where local Moose members and their families can meet the boys.
