Note-worthy in Plymouth: Boston and Bosco

The four members of Boston and Bosco – Boston Catalano, Luke Brech, Spencer Payton and Marco Medieros – have been rocking Plymouth for three years.

Spencer Payton, Luke Brech, Marco Medieros and a singer who goes by the name of “Boston Catalano” have been performing together for about three years as the band Boston and Bosco. Born and raised in Plymouth, the band members entertain locals at spots such as the Guru Grille and Bert’s Landing.

While the band plays both covers and original tracks, lead singer Catalano said that no matter what her group performs they never lack vim and vigor.

“We play high-energy rock and roll,” she said. “I sing with all my guts. I think when people come and listen to it, from beginning to end there is lots of [energy].”

While the band plays both songs off their album, titled Firestarter, and covers from artists like Guns and Roses and Pat Benatar, bass player Payson said he prefers showing his audiences Boston and Bosco’s original songs.

“It’s always very satisfying getting a good crowd enjoying your music,” he said. “Playing music itself is awesome, but playing your own stuff is just that much better.”

In order to create these original tracks, the band draws influences from some of their favorite artists, which includes Kings of Leon, the Foo Fighters, ACDC and ZZ Top. For the most part, their songs are created spontaneously during their weekly practices, with Catalano writing the lyrics and the other musicians creating the riffs.

“The music just kind of comes when we’re jamming together," Catalano said. “Whoever comes up with the riffs is just kind of a combined effort and then we just work on it until it’s done.”

In the band’s three-year history, all members agree that one of the highlights has been appearing on CBS’ Sunday morning show “Totally Patriots.” Last fall, officials from the program contacted the Plymouth group and asked if they would be willing to perform, giving them only three days notice. The band jumped at the opportunity.

The show aired clips of the band performing their original songs in the Patriots’ locker room, along with their music playing over highlights of the football team during previous games.

“It was super exciting,” Payton said. “Seeing us on TV for the first time was kind of mind-blowing.”

While the exposure was exciting for all band members, Catalano said that showing the intensity of the Patriots playing alongside their tracks also captured the true message and emotions of their songs.

“We were really excited to put some of them on there because the energy level suited the highlight reel so well,” she said.

In the future, the members of the band hope to record a second CD as well as go on tour. However, drummer Brech said that no matter how far they go, they will always be grateful for the local following they have built in Plymouth.

“We love meeting new people, but the people that come to our shows every week are what keeps us going,” he said.

The members of Boston and Bosco said they will have a summer full of performances around the Plymouth area. Upcoming shows include a June 24 performance at Main Street Sports Bar as well as a July 2 show at Bert’s Landing.
