Note-worthy in Plymouth: Concerts on the Green

Every Thursday night, the Pinehills Village Green hosts bands from Plymouth and beyond, including Jake Hill, Entrain and Joshua Tree.

This summer, in order to add to the local music scene, will hold its second annual season of Concerts on the Green.

This free music series will feature a new band every Thursday night in July between 6 and 8 p.m. As guests lounge in their chairs or blankets on the golf course lawn, they will be entertained with bands from Plymouth and beyond.

One of the biggest goals of this year’s series was to provide a wide variety of bands, from country to old-time Beatles tunes. In doing so, Donna Tefft, director of marketing and sales at the Pinehills, said she expects the concerts will reach a diverse audience.

“I think it really attracts a wide range of music lovers,” she said. “It’s not just one type of music, so we’re trying to appeal to the region.”

The first band scheduled to perform on July 7 is Entrain, a group hailing from Martha’s Vineyard. The band’s drummer, Tom Major, said he would describe their music as a mix of many different styles, including reggae, rock and folk.

Major said that Entrain will perform their original songs and listeners can expect to have a family-friendly night full of energetic music.

“It will be a lot of fun,” he said. “For people who haven’t seen Entrain before, they are going to really enjoy it. It’s entertaining to listen to, to watch or certainly to dance to.”

Another musician who is scheduled to perform during the Concerts on the Green series is Plymouth’s Jake Hill. July 21, Hill will showcase his original Americana music with the band Deep Creek.

Hill said that he is looking forward to entertaining guests at Pinehills, as it will be different from the many local bars and adult-only venues he typically performs at.

“It’s a whole different audience than what I normally play for,” he said. “It is more of a family thing with older people and younger people. I really love playing those shows because our music usually goes over pretty well with those ages.”

Individuals who have already seen Hill perform around the Plymouth area can prepare to hear some new tracks, as he is currently recording a new album. However, for those who have never seen him in concert, Hill said they can prepare for a fun night on the golf course.

“They can usually expect high energy with upbeat, toe-tapping music,” he said. “There is always something new happening.”

Other bands that are scheduled to perform during the series include Carly Tefft, who will play before Entrain on July 7; BeetleJuice, who will play on July 14; Bobby Carlson and Stones River, who will perform before Hill on July 21; and Joshua Tree, who will play on July 28.

Aside from a wide variety of local talent, the Concerts on the Green will also feature plenty of food options for guests. The golf course’s restaurant, Café Olio, will be serving hamburgers, sandwiches and many other meals throughout the night, while The Market will cook hotdogs outside. Tefft said this will add to guests’ concert experience, as they can make a whole night of the event.

Overall, Tefft said she hopes many locals decide to attend Pinehill’s Thursday night concerts.

“It’s a beautiful setting, it’s a really fun evening and I think they should come experience all of the different styles of music that we’re going to have this year,” she said.
