Pilgrim Hall Receives $45k Grant for Repairs

The grant will go towards making repairs needed after extensive interior water damage occurred last year.

received a $45,000 grant from the Massachusetts Historical Commission to use for restoration of its historic building.

The Preservation Projects Fund grant will go towards implementing repairs to maintain the historic structure. Repair and conservation of the roofs, masonry, metalwork, gutters and windows is needed to provide a watertight condition. Last year, extensive interior water damage occurred as a result of the need for these repairs and it is the intent of the Pilgrim Society to prevent any ongoing damage to the structure or artifacts.

Executive Director of the Pilgrim Society and Pilgrim Hall Museum Ann Berry said her staff is "thrilled to have the support of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts through a Preservation Projects Grant to help fund important preservation work on the oldest portions of Pilgrim Hall Museum."

Pilgrim Hall Museum was built in 1824. It is the oldest continuously-operating public museum in the country and houses an unmatched collection of Pilgrim possessions.

"I was proud to support Pilgrim Hall in their need for this critical funding," Senate President Therese Murray said. "This building is a part of our Commonwealth’s history, and we must do what we can to preserve our heritage."
