Plymouth Center for the Arts Features 44th Annual Art Show
The Plymouth Center for the Arts will host several shows over the next week to celebrate the 44th annual Plymouth Guild Art Show.
The Plymouth Guild for the Arts kicked its 44th Annual Juried Art Show with the Opening Gala and Awards night Friday.
Of the 698 pieces submitted for inclusion in the show, just 247 could be accepted, due to space constraints. Judges looked for expertise in execution, quality of presentation and innovative ideas in implementing the elements of art and design.
The Best in Show prize was awarded to Lori Whalen for her black and white photo “Navajo Guide, David Clarke.”

Best Abstract Mixed Media was won by Helene Zaniboni, for “A Study in Gray,” and Best Representational went to John Signore, for “Silver Still Life.”
Prizes for black and white photo were awarded to Christopher Harding, first place, and Edmund Prescottano, second place. Honorable mention was given to Heidi Harting, Betty Wiley and Zachary Ennis.

The color photography winners are Wesley Ennis, first place, and Susan James, second place. Honorable mention was given to Steven Becker, Eduardo Del Solar and Elizabeth M. Ryan.
The first prize for digital art was awarded to Tony Andrade; second prize went to Dorothy Amore Pilla.
Eileen Caseywas awarded first prize in drawing and pastel, and second went to Selma Alden. Joseph Neville, Patricia A. Weaver and Matthew E. Zappala received honorable mention.
In the fine craft category, there were ties for both first and second prize. Donna G. Brouillard and Brenda V. O’Rourke shared first place honors. Second prize was shared by Susan C. Brissette and Lucy C. Osborne. Honorable mention was given to Nicole Blanchard and Ann Lainhart.
The first place prize in the mixed media category was awarded to Marie T. Peters. Mark A. Slaven and Sarah Mayo tied for second. Stephen King received two honorable mentions and that distinctions was also awarded to Gretchen Moran and Judy Quinn.
First prize for painting in oil or acrylic was won by Sean J. Cassidy. Second prize went to Joyce Dietlin, and there were three honorable mentions: Dana R. Malcolm; Jan K. McElhinny; and Ellen Withington.
The first prize for printmaking was awarded to Paul Crimi. Second prizes went to Kathleen Mogayzel and Leo Murphy.
First prize for sculpture was won by David Bohl, and second was awarded to Douglass C. Gray. Robert O. Leaver and Edward T. Russell both received honorable mentions from the judges.
For painting in watercolor or casein, first prize was won by Stephen H. Holland, and second was awarded to Ruth Rego, with honorable mentions given to David Holt and Betty Rogers.
As part of the annual show, the Guild is hosting several events over the next two weeks along North Street including
Art in Bloom, this Friday, Sept. 30, and Fall in Love with Jazz featuring Mark Greel, Sunday, Oct. 2.
