Plymouth Opening Hurricane Shelter Sunday

will be open Sunday as a hurricane shelter to residents and tourists as Hurricane Irene makes its way up the coast.

The shelter will be supported and operated by Plymouth Public Schools and volunteer emergency staff.

Shelter patrons should come prepared, guidance on shelter preparation or an emergency kit can be found on www.ready.gov, or check it on .

RVs and campers will be allowed to park in the school's parking lot beginning Saturday. No services will be available at Plymouth South High School.

Pets will not be accepted at the shelter, and pet owners are advised to make arraignments with a veterinarian, hotel, or animal-friendly shelter outside the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station Emergency Planning Zone. Here's a list of vet offices and kennels that may accept pets before the hurricane.
