Plymouth Philharmonic Celebrates American Spirit with Sept. 11 Concert
The Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra will honor the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001 with a special free concert at the Plymouth Public Library.

Creating a musical embrace for area families on a uniquely significant day, the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra and the Plymouth Public Library have partnered together to present a special event in observance of the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Steven Karidoyanes conducts the Plymouth Philharmonic Cabaret Orchestra in The Esther and Alcide Ruffini Community Concert: “Celebrating the American Spirit.” This free-to-the-public, family-friendly event is intended to provide a sense of comfort, hope and security on this important anniversary. The performance includes familiar light classics, much-loved American standards and a patriotic sing-along led by members of the Pilgrim Festival Chorus. Families are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnics. The concert takes place on the front lawn of the Plymouth Public Library, 132 South Street, beginning at 4:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 11, and is sponsored, in part, by The Bongiovanni Family Trust. The concert will also be broadcast live on PACTV and WATD, 95.9 fm.
“This event replicates the Phil concert presented to the community on the first anniversary of 9/11,” conductor Karidoyanes said. “The program is not intended to be a memorial concert. It's meant to be a gathering together of our community and a celebration of our American way of life - a spirit that continues even through challenges and tragedy.”
Highlights of the program performed by the Phil’s 26-piece Cabaret Orchestra include American classics You Made Me Love You, What A Wonderful World, and Scott Joplin’s Maple Leaf Rag, "A Symphonic Portrait of Irving Berlin" that features There’s No Business Like Show Business, Alexander’s Ragtime Band and God Bless America, and a George Gershwin medley consisting of I Got Rhythm, Someone to Watch Over Me, S’Wonderful, and Rhapsody in Blue.
The program will conclude by 6 p.m., allowing audience members plenty of time to attend the 7 p.m. interfaith service scheduled at The Church of the Pilgrimage.
The event occurs ‘rain-or shine.’ Should it become necessary, the concert moves indoors into the library.
On-site parking is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Additional parking is available at Plymouth North High School.
