Plymouth Resident Debra Betz Enters State Rep. Race

School Committee member Debra Betz is running for state representative of the 12th Plymouth district, which includes Kingston, Halifax and Plympton, along with precincts in Plymouth, Middleborough and Duxbury.

Debra Betz announced her Republican candidacy for State Representative in the 12th Plymouth district to a crowd of supporters at the Royal Garden in Kingston.Β Β 

Currently, Betz is an elected member of the Plymouth School Committee, and former chairman. She ran two successful campaigns for her school committee seat, and was the top vote getter in 2007 in a highly contested race. She ran unopposed in 2010. Debra Betz is gaining statewide attention for her election bid.Β 

Attending the event was Kingston resident and Plymouth County Sheriff Joseph McDonald, β€œI am happy to see a good person like Deb running for office. I know Deb is an excellent candidate and I know she will work hard for the people of the 12th Plymouth District”.
Betz described her campaign as a 10 month job interview, "My job is to earn each and every vote between now and November 6th ". β€œWe need a representative that represents our district, not someone who says one thing here in the district, and votes another way up on Beacon Hill. We need and deserve better,” Betzadded. β€œI will be your full-time legislator”.Β 
Republican Minority Whip, Brad Hill from Ipswich attended the kick-off. β€œWe need Deb up on Beacon Hill to help us support the legislation which will create more jobs in the Commonwealth”. Β

Spokesperson, Tim Buckley from the Mass GOP, who also attended the event had this to say: β€œWe are keeping a close eye on the 12th Plymouth seat.”

The 12th Plymouth State Rep district includes 6 towns: Kingston, Halifax and Plympton, along with precincts in Plymouth, Middleborough and Duxbury.

If Betz wins the primary scheduled for Sept. 6, she will face incumbent, state Rep. Tom Calter, a Kingston Democrat in the Nov. 6 election.
