Plymouth Woman Inducted into UMass Lowell Honor Society

Dorcas Callender, a liberal arts major from Plymouth, has been inducted into SALUTE, a national honor society that celebrates the academic achievements of student veterans.

UMass Lowell’s SALUTE chapter was established on campus by the UMass Lowell Student Veterans Organization in 2010. Today, it is one of the largest in the country, reaching 110 members with the most recent induction.

The ceremony was held at the UMass Lowell Inn & Conference Center and featured Executive Vice Chancellor Jacqueline Moloney among the event speakers. Each SALUTE inductee received a specially designed UMass Lowell challenge coin, emblazoned with the logos of the university and the five branches of military service. The challenge coin is a token of lifetime membership in the UMass Lowell chapter and a symbol of unit cohesiveness.

UMass Lowell has been named a military friendly school by G.I. Jobs magazine for three years in a row, one of only four public universities in Massachusetts to earn this designation. The campus welcomes veterans, guardsmen, reservists and all active duty military personnel and is committed to helping students take advantage of all available benefits. The Office of Veterans Services assists with the admissions process, provides help with VA benefit certification and offers comprehensive services to address issues that student veterans may face while pursuing their educational goals.
