Polls Open At 8 AM Saturday for Special Election
Plymouth voters will decide whether to accept a 0.75 percent meals tax that would fund Plymouth's 400th anniversary celebration.

Even before voted to approve the 0.75 percent meals tax to fund Plymouth's 400th anniversary celebration, there was controversy.
Since the vote, there has been more. So much so that more than to hold a referendum on the tax. The referendum election will be held this Saturday.

Those against the tax argue that it will be placed on the backs of restaurants, which are struggling in a down economy, and to residents who would bear the brunt of the tax.
Those in of the tax argue that the tax will actually be placed on diners' checks, and point out that many of those diners are visitors to Plymouth and not residents. They also argue that the tax is better than having shoulder the entire burden of the celebration in 2020 in their .
