Possible Measles Exposure In Plymouth: DPH

Health officials said an infected person visited a restaurant in Plymouth.

PLYMOUTH, MA — The state Department of Public Health is warning residents after a person diagnosed with measles made a stop at a Plymouth restaurant. According to state officials, residents in Plymouth and six other Greater Boston locations may be at risk of exposure.

The individual was at KKatie's Burger Bar on 38 Main St. Ext. between 1:40 p.m. and 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26. The six other public places the person visited include spots in Waltham, Framingham, Braintree and Hyannis.

People who either aren't immunized or show symptoms of measles and visited any of the locations the infected individual visited were advised to contact their health care provider.

Measles is a highly contagious virus that is spread through the air through coughing and sneezing. One of the tricky things about the virus is that it may remain in the environment for up to two hours after the infectious person has left the area, health officials said. Symptoms of measles include white spot inside the mouth, inflamed eyes and sore throat.

This is the state's first confirmed measles case so far this year.
