Red Cross of Cape, Islands and Southeast Massachusetts Announces 2015 Heroes

HYANNIS, Ma. February 20, 2015 — The American Red Cross of the Cape, Islands and Southeast Massachusetts today announced the awardees of this year’s Heroes nominations, an annual initiative aimed at recognizing those in the community who have acted extraordinarily on behalf of others. Each year the honorees are celebrated at the annual Community Heroes Breakfast. This year’s breakfast will take place on April 10th at the Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis.

“We couldn’t be more excited to honor these heroes who have made a lasting impression on their communities through their commitment to helping others,” said Hilary Greene, Executive Director of the Chapter. “The Red Cross mission was built on enabling ordinary people to do extraordinary things and these heroes could not be a better example of that pursuit.”

The Cape Chapter is also celebrating its Centennial Anniversary this year and the Heroes categories were named for historical figures in the Chapter. The categories are named for: Lt. Col. Farris Posey, Life Saving Hero Award; Mrs. Grace Snow, Community Service Hero; Miss Mary Ethel Young, Community Impact Hero; Mrs. Chester Murray, Individual with Disability Hero; Corporal William Baker, Armed Forces Hero Award; Sheriff Donald Tulloch, Professional Hero Award; Mrs. Charles Davis, Youth Hero Award; and Miss Ida Taylor, Good Samaritan Award.
