INTRODUCTION TO PASTELS with JOHN NUTTER

BEGINNING TO INTERMEDIATE DRAWING & PAINTING INSTRUCTION - EDWINA CACI

Drawing is a key to successful artwork. This instructor focuses on giving each student individual attention in order to improve drawing skills and guide the completion of the artwork in charcoal, pencil, and or oil/acrylic/watercolor paint. New! MOROCCAN STILL LIFE with JOANNA RUGGIERO

This class is for advanced level beginners through studio-level painters. Abstract painters welcome. The concept is based on Matisse's love affair with the complex textures, color, sense of place and whimsy of the Moroccan still life. Each person will bring in a few, very large eclectic items that will be arranged in a still life in a central location in the room. The first two sessions will focus on sketching the still life from different view points. The group will move around the still life, and rearrange items if necessary, to change perspective, and to discover the ebb and flow of the arrangement in the still life. The remaining 4 sessions will be devoted to painting and the study of placement, scale, color, texture, fragmentation and the part that abstraction plays in the narrative. Limit 8 students.

MASTER CLASS with SARAH BATES WASHBURN

This class gives the budding artist a chance to dabble, experiment and learn about various media including: pen and ink, watercolor, charcoal, acrylic, etc. Students will learn various techniques or enhance their current abilities with each medium, creating a completed composition by session's end in the media of their choice. This class gives you the freedom to spread your wings and discover something new or reconnect to something old, all in a relaxed, fun and supportive atmosphere.

Students choose to work from oils or acrylics in this course designed for all experience levels. Learn the basics of painting or challenge yourself and bring skills to the next level. Individual attention is emphasized. Limit 10 students.

PAINTING IN PASTEL with CHRISTINE BODNAR

This course is for the beginner to intermediate pastel painter. Students will learn the building blocks of painting emphasizing composition, value relationships, and the importance of doing studies. Using photos of the landscape for reference students will learn good choices in designing their paintings. Demonstrations will start most classes. Limit 10 students

CERAMIC WHEEL THROWING 101 WITH BRENDA O'ROURKE

Learn the "Fine Art" of throwing clay on the potter's wheel. The entire process of producing pots, along with surface treatments, and various firing methods will be explored. Plan to "get down and dirty" for this class.

Don't let fear of drawing mathematically scare you! Based on a tactile approach to drawing fostered by Frederick Franck, we will abandon the principles of geometry and math (for the time being) and develop the art of truly seeing. PEN AND INK CLASS with JOHN NUTTER

Learn how to apply strokes and marks to your basic pencil drawings by using dots and lines. By varying them in size, volume, and positioning, you will be creating textures and tonal changes. Students will work from a still life or photograph. Limit 8 students.

FUNKTIONAL CERAMICS with DEREK HARDING

If you make it you might as well use it. This class will give you the tools to make an array of fun, funky and functional ceramic pieces. You will learn simple and exciting techniques such as slab building, coil building, using drape molds and slump molds. We will also explore decorating techniques such as stamps and press molds, sprig molds. This is the perfect way to explore your creative side and use what you've made. Or share what you've made with others and make handmade holiday presents! Limit 8 students.

DRAMATIC SETTINGS One-day Pastel Workshop with CHRISTINE BODNAR

This one-day workshop is designed for the beginner to intermediate pastel painter who has been inspired by a sunset or sunrise and wants to translate that dramatic setting onto the painting surface Concentration on design and composition will be the foundation of the workshop. We will work from photos taken from dramatic settings and start with quick studies and a strong underpainting. A demo will start the workshop. Limit 10 students.

WATERCOLOR PAINTING - BOLD AND FREE Two-day Watercolor Workshop with Mary Callahan

This two day workshop is designed to introduce students to the joy of watercolor painting - without fear. By setting up the right conditions and allowing the paint to do it's thing, the results will be beautiful. One-Day PORTRAIT WORKSHOP from a MODEL with EDWINA CACI

Work in a medium of your choice (charcoal, watercolor, oil) to create a head & shoulders portrait in a 16"x20" format. With instruction, you will lay out your palette, create a sketch, develop a composition, and then paint along with this gifted artist instructor to complete the stages of the portrait. Now that we have you drawing in proportion and perspective, let's learn how to turn your sketch into a beautiful ink illustration. We'll use ball point pen and markers to learn techniques that once were only possible with a quill and an incising tool. Terry Kole, long-time cartoonist, newspaper and book illustrator will help you along the path to mastering pen and ink. Each week, we'll draw another subject provided by Terry. Limit 10 students.
