Kingston Man Killed After Plane Crashes Into Plymouth Pond: DA

PLYMOUTH, MA — A Kingston man was killed after the small plane he was piloting crashed into Curlew Pond Thursday morning, the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office said.

The pilot, 81-year-old Richard Carrara, was taken to a local hospital following the crash shortly after 7:30 a.m. but was pronounced dead less than an hour and a half later, the district attorney's office said in a media release.

Divers pulled Carrera from the pond in Myles Standish State
Park and were initially unsure if there was a missing passenger from the two-seater plane, according to the Plymouth Fire Department.

It turned out he was the sole occupant, the district attorney's release said.

"Preliminarily, it appears that Carrara departed Plymouth Municipal Airport at 6:32 a.m. for Martha's Vineyard, and was attempting to return to Plymouth when the crash occurred," the release said. "The cause and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation."
