The Spire Center for Performing Arts Presents Jonathan Edwards
Stellar Americana singer/songwriter for four decades
The Spire Center for Performing Arts, the entertainment mecca of Plymouth, presents Jonathan Edwards in concert on Saturday, May 9, 8 pm, at The Spire Center for Performing Arts, 25 ½ Court Street, Plymouth.
Four decades into a stellar career of uncompromising musical integrity, folk and Americana singer/songwriter Jonathan Edwards delivers, night after night – songs of passion, insight and humor, all rendered in his trademark pure, powerful tenor. Neither grizzled nor nostalgic, this veteran performer is perpetually found on the road. His highly respected repertoire includes classics including “Honky Tonk Stardust Cowboy,” “Sometimes,” “One Day Closer,” “Don’t Cry Blue,” “Emma,” and favorite ode to putting a good buzz on, “Shanty.” Anthemic “Sunshine (Go Away Today),” a fierce proclamation of protest and independence, resonated with thousands and thousands of young men and women when it was first released in 1971.
Since 1971, Jonathan has released 15 albums, including Blue Ridge, his standard-setting collaboration with bluegrass favorites The Seldom Scene, and Little Hands, his collection of children’s songs, which was honored with a National Library Association award.
