The Spire Center for Performing Arts Presents A Winter of Jazz

Full season of jazz performances on tap in Plymouth

The Spire Center for Performing Arts, the entertainment mecca of Plymouth, presents A Winter of Jazz, a full season of jazz events performing from January 17 through April 18 at The Spire Center for Performing Arts, 25 ½ Court Street, Plymouth.

Appearing on Saturday, January 17, 8 pm, The Jeff Galindo Quintet performs with Jeff Galindo at the helm, recognized as one of the top jazz trombonists in the Northeast. This high-energy quintet delivers an unforgettable evening of Galindo’s acclaimed jazz compositions. Tickets are $20.

On Saturday, February 21, 8 pm, Dan Moretti & the Hammond Boys brings saxophonist Dan Moretti’s rich and diverse 30 year performing and recording career from his travels the world over to our Plymouth stage. As a leading force on 17 CD’s, Moretti has performed and recorded with many of soul and jazz legends, including Grammy® award winners. Tickets are $25.

On Saturday, March 28, 8 pm, Boston’s hometown ensemble The Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra appears under the direction of Greg Hopkins. This 18-piece orchestra is comprised of the top students at this prestigious college, renowned for their jazz star graduates. Performing works of renowned Berklee students and alumni composers, this exciting night of music is the launch pad of the future of jazz! Tickets are $20.

On Saturday, April 18, 8 pm, internationally acclaimed, Grammy® nominated virtuoso jazz pianist Eldar Djangirov presents The Eldar Trio. Eldar is rightly compared to jazz greats Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson, universally recognized for his stunning keyboard mastery and beautiful sound thrilling critics and audiences around the world. Dave Brubeck, among others, hailed Djangirov as “a young genius”. Like all great jazz musicians he has his own distinct voice, instantly recognizable; always surprising and satisfying whether playing the blues, a classic ballad or an original up-tempo composition. Tickets are $30.

Through the entire jazz season, an All Star Open Jazz Jam will be held on Thursdays January 22, February 12, February 26 and March 26, 7 pm. The Spire Center’s lobby turns all-out jazz club for an open jazz jam session. Members of the house band include some of the area’s most renowned jazz musicians, and welcome audience musicians to sit in. Tickets are $5 for musicians or audience.

The season of ongoing events culminates with The Spire’s second annual Plymouth Rock Assurance Jazz Festival, throughout Memorial Day weekend, from May 29 through 31. The Plymouth Rock Assurance Jazz Festival is possible through the generous sponsorship of Plymouth Rock Assurance Company, and sponsorship of Eastern Bank.

Tickets for all performances are now available, advance purchases are recommended, seating is limited to capacity.
