Stambandet, The Scandinavian Vocal Ensemble

Presenting First Lutheran Church Centennial Celebration

Join us in celebrating the 100th anniversary of First Lutheran Church! There will be two performances Saturday, March 28th, starting at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. at 1663 Main St Rt 6A, West Barnstable, Massachusetts 02668. We will journey through space and time, weaving Nordic life and lore into a tapestry of sounds. You will dance in the villages of Finland and Denmark, experience voices echoing in the mountains and fjords of Norway, ride through the enchanted desert of Iceland, and wander through the magical summer forests of Sweden. We will take you on a musical odyssey you will never forget!

Stämbandet has a reputation for excellence both as an a cappella ensemble and a World Music vocal group. Presenting songs rarely heard outside of Iceland, Norway, Finland, Denmark, and Sweden, this captivating vocal band often breaks into six- and seven- part harmonies sung in six languages. Led by Allen LeVines, musical director since 1985, Stämbandet performs a wide range of a cappella folk traditions unique to Scandinavia, including “trall” - singers imitating fiddlers playing dance music - a practice that has been compared to scat singing.

Admission is free for all ages, however a free will offering will be accepted.
