The Art of Parking for the Parade

The top five tips for finding a (free) parking space for the Thanksgiving Parade Saturday.

  1. Get there early, get there early, get there early. Water Street between Brewster and Union streets will close at 8 a.m. and reopen at 4 p.m. Saturday. Court Street will close at 9:30 a.m. If you want to park in the downtown lots you'll have to get there before 9 a.m.
  2. There will be no parking on Court Street, Main and Main Street Extension starting at 7 a.m. Saturday until the parade ends. The restrictions extend on the southbound side of Court Street from Water to Samoset Street, and on the northbound side between Samoset Street and Lothrop Street.
  3. The lots on nothern Water Street take cash and credit cards, but any space with a meter only takes change, make sure you have quarters.
  4. Be prepared to walk. The best parking will be a bit of a walk from the parade route and all the action on the Waterfront.
  5. Lots of people park up at Benny's Plaza, others recommend Nathaniel Morton Elementary, then there's the Jenney Grist Mill, the prettiest walk.
