Theatre Company Performs 'The Venture of 1620' in Plymouth

The production held next week will follow the story of the Pilgrims from the voyage of the Mayflower to the first Thanksgiving celebration.

A theatre company is returning to Plymouth to tell the story of the Pilgrims through the Thanksgiving production “The Venture of 1620.”

The nonprofit theatre company based in Taylors, S.C., Academy of Arts LOGOS Theatre, will bring a cast of 60 performers to Plymouth this week.

“We have been asked, in accordance with the city of Plymouth, to return for this year’s Thanksgiving Celebration,” said Kara Reish, promotional manager of the Academy of Arts LOGOS Theatre.

The Academy of Arts LOGOS Theatre will walk in the America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Celebration parade on Saturday and will perform at Plymouth Memorial Hall, 83 Court St., on Monday and Tuesday.

“The Venture of 1620” follows the story of the Pilgrims from the voyage of the Mayflower to the first Thanksgiving celebration through the eyes of Plymouth Colony governor William Bradford.

Performances will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday and a matinee performance at 12 p.m. on Tuesday.

Tickets can be bought at Plymouth Memorial Hall and near the waterfront throughout the weekend.

Tickets are $25 for adults and matinee tickets are $10 for students.

The play will feature a 50 percent-to-scale replica of the Mayflower.

The ship is 40 feet long and about 12 feet high with three decks, Reish said. “It’s a massive set piece,” she said.

The Academy of Arts LOGOS Theatre previously performed for the Town of Plymouth in August at Plymouth Memorial Hall.
