Theatrical Adventure The Three Musketeers Opens July 9

New adaptation features intense action, sword fighting and opening weekend Gala in Plymouth

Americana Theatre Company (ATC), Plymouth’s professional theatre company, presents Ken Ludwig’s The Three Musketeers from July 9 through 25, on Thursdays at 7 pm and Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm at Spire Center for Performing Arts, 25 ½ Court Street, Plymouth. An Opening Weekend Gala will be held immediately following the July 11 performance, all guests in attendance that evening are welcome.

This new adaptation of The Three Musketeers, a “blades and corsets” classic, inspired ATC artistic directors to reach across the nation for masterful direction, coaching and acting. Award-winning guest Director Marianne Savell and internationally renowned Fight Director Dr. Michael Kirkland (member, Society of American Fight Directors, Actors Equity Association and Screen Actors Guild) serves the cast of 22 with credits ranging from regional to Broadway, hailing from across the country.

Actors prepared for the production through 2 months of intense physical training, seeking the same physical condition as half-marathoners. Their rehearsals include stage combat and foil techniques, utilizing epee bladed rapiers that provide rapid, ringing interaction. Precise choreography requires actors to maneuver instantaneous crossovers, moving set pieces, swords, and multiple quick costume changes. “I fell in love with swashbuckling long before I ever held a sword,” shares Kirkland, “The challenge for me will be to create fights that have zing, but communicate a narrative, pulling out the character moments and allowing each musketeer’s unique personality to come through.”
