Woman Fabricated Abduction Attempt Story: Middleborough Police

Police said a 27-year-old woman who said a man came up from behind her and tried to drag her into a van made the story up.

MIDDLEBOROUGH, MA — A woman who said a man tried to abduct her while she was taking a walk Monday afternoon made the story up, police said.

Police Chief Joseph Perskins said a 27-year-old Middleborough woman told police she was walking on Clay Street around 12:15 p.m. when a man drove up in a rust red colored utility van and asked for directions. A short time later the man walked up behind the woman, grabbed her by the face and pulled her toward the van, she told police. She said she then freed herself and ran into the woods where she called police.

Soon after announcing the supposed incident, police "determined the alleged abduction attempt did not occur."
