• Massachusetts High Court Blocks Quincy from Installing Statues of Catholic Saints on Public Safety Building (newbedfordguide.com) — Quincy's plan to place two large Catholic saint statues outside the new public safety headquarters has been blocked by Massachusetts' highest court, which says the display likely violates state rules on religious neutrality. The statues, commissioned by Mayor Thomas Koch and challenged by local taxpayers represented by the ACLU, will stay in storage as the lawsuit returns to trial court and potentially higher appeals.
• New England Aquarium returns four rehabilitated sea turtles to the ocean in fifth beach release of the season (hollistonreporter.com) — New England Aquarium staff at their Quincy Sea Turtle Hospital helped rehabilitate four endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtles before releasing them off Cape Cod last week. A few turtles are still recovering at the Quincy facility, while researchers track others with tags to better understand their movements and improve sea turtle conservation in New England waters.
• NFPA releases 9/11 archive highlighting high-rise safety lessons (securitysystemsnews.com) — Based in Quincy, the National Fire Protection Association has released a new archival collection marking 25 years since 9/11, focusing on how the attacks reshaped high-rise fire and life-safety standards. The materials, housed in NFPA's Research Library, compile research, photos, and reports that influenced building codes and evacuation procedures used nationwide today.
