Today's riddle: What is clean when it is black and dirty when it is white? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Quincy's Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Day Approaches (patch.com) — Quincy residents have a chance this Saturday to safely dispose of hazardous household materials at the Department of Public Works on Sea Street, with free paper shredding also available. The city's drop-off event, limited to Quincy residents with proof of residency, covers a wide range of items from antifreeze and brake fluid to art supplies and photo chemicals, helping residents clear out dangerous clutter responsibly.
2. Closed College Campuses Could Help Ease the Housing Shortage (governing.com) — The future of Eastern Nazarene College's shuttered Quincy campus remains stalled as competing visions pit neighbors seeking quiet open space against residents and experts who see a prime site for much-needed housing. With the mayor having opposed a dense redevelopment plan and no new proposal moving forward, the overgrown property highlights Quincy's broader struggle to add homes while balancing traffic, zoning, and neighborhood concerns.
3. Quincy City Council to decide on Flock cameras after oversight committee meeting - Boston News, Weather, Sports (whdh.com) — Quincy's City Council is weighing whether to keep or ban the city's 49 Flock license-plate cameras after residents raised strong privacy and civil liberties concerns at a packed meeting. Police and the district attorney defended the system as a key crime‑solving tool, citing homicides and kidnappings, leaving councilors to decide the technology's future in Quincy neighborhoods.
4. Options for local music abound this weekend. Start planning now (patriotledger.com) — Quincy music fans have several chances to catch hometown rocker Fil Pacino this weekend, including a return to Break Rock Brewing and a brunch set at the Quincy Elks. The regional roundup also highlights big-name concerts from Boston to Plymouth, plus South Shore favorites in nearby clubs and festivals, giving you plenty of options for a local night out.
5. Massachusetts firefighters train for building collapses (patriotledger.com) — Quincy firefighters are among those completing an intensive state Structural Collapse Rescue Technician course, sharpening skills for rare but catastrophic building failures and disasters. The free program at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy's Bridgewater campus teaches advanced techniques for locating victims, stabilizing damaged structures, and working in complex rescue scenarios, boosting the region's preparedness for major emergencies.
