North Quincy High School Field Dedication Draws Controversy

The field will be dedicated to the Creedon family which includes a former superintendent that resigned due to alleged inappropriate touching

QUINCY, MA — The new athletic field at North Quincy High School will be dedicated to a well-known Quincy family that includes a superintendent that resigned in 1984 due to allegations that he inappropriately touched a student.

The field, to be dedicated to the Creedon family, includes ex-Superintendent Lawrence Creedon, who left his post after the accusation became public, according to the Patriot Ledger, The family also includes a deputy fire chief, a school cafeteria worker, military veterans and two former Quincy Public Schools superintendents.

Creedon was never charged but in a separate case, he admitted to sexually assaulting a mentally ill homeless woman.

Mayor Thomas Koch defended the decision to dedicate the field, saying that one person's black mark shouldn't mean that the family can't be recognized.

Saturday's ceremony is scheduled for noon.
