Quincy Water Main Break Shuts Down Newport Avenue
The surrounding area was closed for a massive water main break.

QUINCY, MA - A major water main break closed down Newport Avenue near Furnace Brook Parkway Wednesday night.
Motorists were asked to avoid the area at about 6 p.m., with the road expected to be reopened for the morning commute. The Quincy DPW told NBC Boston that the break was caused by a rusted bolt that holds the pipes together and blew the top off the connector.
The break caused 20 homes to be without water.

The City of Quincy said on Quincy that rust-colored water is normal following a big change in pressure like a main break. Residents are advised to run cold water until it clears up. If that does not work by the morning, you can call the DPW at 617-376-1910.
