42 RMHS Students Inducted Into National Honor Society
Students honored for academic success and giving back.
Forty-two Reading Memorial High School students were inducted into the school's chapter of the National Honor Society at the Scholastic Awards Night that took place in the Performing Arts Center on May 12.
Members were selected for induction based on their grade point average, leadership qualities, service to the community, and outstanding character. Students inducted have significantly contributed to the community in many ways over the past year.
Inductees volunteered their time as coaches for recreational sports programs, youth group leaders, class officers, club presidents at RMHS, captains of sports teams, State House tour guides and Winchester Hospital messengers, to name a few.

The evening also featured a keynote address by Bill Endslow, who is a teacher and chairperson of the Fine, Performing, and Practical Arts Department at Reading Memorial High School.
The Reading Memorial High School chapter of the National Honor Society has been an active club since 1950. The National Honor Society ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious national organizations for high school students. The Society was founded in 1921, and currently more than 22,000 chapters exist in high schools throughout the nation.

The evening also included the induction of 100 members of the Century Club. The Century Club at Reading Memorial High School recognizes the top 40 seniors, 30 juniors, 20 sophomores, and 10 freshmen based on the "unweighted grades" for the first three marking periods of the school year. The Century Club recognizes students who come to school each day prepared and committed to do their best in all that a typical day brings.
Nineteen students were presented with College Book Awards, based on the criteria established by the 18 colleges that participate in the RMHS program. The criteria for awards vary from college to college. Students who received awards included students who have demonstrated a serious commitment to improving the lives of children, an exceptional promise in the study of visual art, strong communication skills, exceptional leadership skills, outstanding contributions to their community and/or outstanding academic achievements.
The evening concluded with a reception organized by the parents of the 2009-2010 National Honor Society officers.
