Today is Wednesday, April 6. Here are five things you need to know:
- Some sun, some clouds: According to the National Weather Service, today will feature increasing clouds, with a high near 53 degrees. A west wind will be between 13-17 mph, with gusts as high as 39 mph possible, according to the forecast.
- On the agenda: The Finance Committee meets in Room 5 at at 7 p.m. Over at the , the Hillview Commission meets at 7 p.m.
- Happenings at the library: There is still time to register for Thursday’s scrapbooking workshop at the . Deanna Czarniecki, an independent Stampin' Up! demonstrator will lead a workshop on creating a scrapbook page. Call 978-664-4942 to register.
- Beyond books: students will attend a series of informational workshops designed to inform them on current topics related to their lives at the school today. “Beyond Books Day” will feature workshops aimed at providing students with additional skills they may need to appropriately deal with challenges that they might encounter in their lives and further educate them about topics that are relevant to their lives both today and for the future, according to the school. The themes for the workshops are health and wellness, global issues, healthy relationships, and the value of community service, and several guest speakers will be on hand to work with students, according to the school.
- Game on: On this date in 1896, the Olympic Games were reborn in Athens 1,500 years after being banned by Roman Emperor Theodosius I. At the opening of the Athens Games, King Georgios I of Greece and a crowd of 60,000 spectators welcomed athletes from 13 nations, according to History.com. The first recorded Olympics were held at Olympia in the Greek city-state of Elis in 776 B.C., but it is generally accepted that the Olympics were at least 500 years old at that time. The ancient Olympics, held every four years, occurred during a religious festival honoring the Greek god Zeus, according to History.com.
