READING, MA — More than 150 Reading Memorial High School students participated in internships across a wide range of industries during the 2025-26 school year, according to school officials.
The internship program placed students at organizations in fields including health care, engineering, education, finance, law, public safety, real estate, fitness and the skilled trades.
School officials said mentor evaluations showed strong ratings for student performance and preparedness. According to the district, 90% of mentors rated interns a 4 or 5 out of 5 for workforce readiness, while 94% gave similar ratings for overall progress, skill development and contributions at their internship sites. The same percentage rated their overall experience with the program a 4 or 5 out of 5.
Several students took on responsibilities beyond observation. At Joshua Eaton Elementary School, intern Cole Fusco led classroom activities when a teacher was called away unexpectedly. At Treeline Inc., Kaylie Fantasia secured a summer social media contract before completing her internship. Gavin Fucarile volunteered at additional nonprofit fundraising events while interning with M.A.R.C. Network.
Other students gained specialized experiences, including Jonathan Lee, who participated in training programs at the Reading Police Department typically reserved for college-level interns.
District officials said 81% of mentors gave interns the highest possible score for willingness to hire, reflecting confidence in the students' workplace skills.
The high school is now seeking businesses and organizations interested in hosting interns for the spring 2027 semester. Reach out to Meghan Manos at meaghan.manos@reading.k12.ma.us go here for more information.
