Austin Prep stadium opening is sold-out

Tickets to the Austin Prep Thanksgiving Football Game against Lynn Tech are completely sold out and tickets will not be sold at the gate.

This year’s Thanksgiving Football Game will always have a special place in the hearts of the Austin Preparatory School community.

It is the first game the Reading school will play under its own lights and on its own turf field, marking completion of a new $3.7 million Stadium Athletic Complex.

“I can’t wait to step on that field,” said Football Head Coach Bill Maradei, who has taught and coached at the school for 22 years. “Friday night football … this is going to be such a wonderful thing.”

The game is on Wed., Nov. 25 at 6:30 pm against Lynn Vocational Technical Institute. Austin Prep is celebrating the opening of the stadium with a reception for current families and alumni and a ribbon cutting ceremony before the game starts. Tickets to the game are completely sold out, and tickets will not be sold at the gate. The school will have a record turnout for the event.

One of the announcers of the football game will be New England sports journalist Steve Buckley, who writes for The Boston Herald and is a commentator on numerous sports radio and television programs.

“This is really an exciting time for Austin Prep,” Headmaster James Hickey, Ph.D., said. “Our community comes together to celebrate its milestones.”

“Austin Prep continues to provide transformative opportunities for our students,” he said. “This stadium will serve as a focal point of the campus to gather our community together.”

The stadium includes synthetic turf on Fr. Seymour Field, permanent lighting, a 400-meter track and accompanying infrastructure (shot put, discus, pole vault, high jump, long jump and triple jump), and bleacher seating for 1,100. There is a concession stand building equipped with permanent restroom facilities and a green space area. For the first time, there will be a fence surrounding the stadium.

The field and track are used for multiple sports, including football, soccer, outdoor track and field and lacrosse. The capital construction project represents a significant and vital upgrade to Austin Prep’s athletic facilities.
