Boil Water Order Lifted In Reading
Residents were advised to be careful with their drinking water over the weekend after a sample tested positive for E. coli.
READING, MA — Drinking water no longer poses a threat to public health in Reading, according to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. Health officials lifted the boil water order in town Monday morning.
Residents were advised to be careful with their drinking water over the weekend after E. coli was found at one building in the city. The water department collected samples from 10 locations throughout Reading on Oct. 31 and found a positive sample on Salem Street. Follow-up tests detected the bacteria.
Officials believe it was most likely caused by runoff from the area's recent storms.
