'Devastating' Fire Leaves Reading Family With Nothing

The community is coming to the aid of a local restaurateur's family following a fire that destroyed their home of 17 years.

READING, MA — The owner of two local restaurants and his family lost everything in a recent devastating fire. Shankerganesh (Sean) Krishnamoorthy is the owner of Zucca Italian Restaurant and Half & Half, according to The Reading Post.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help support the family during this difficult time.

Kannan Kesavalu and Shankerganesh Krishnamoorthy organized the fundraiser.

"We are reaching out to share devastating news about our dear friend Shanker and his family. Recently, tragedy struck their home, leaving them in a state of profound loss and desperation," they wrote.

The fire destroyed everything the family had, "reducing the cherished memories and possessions accumulated over 17 years living in the house to ashes."

The family has three children and a puppy who "are now grappling with the harsh reality of homelessness, their lives turned upside down overnight...

"The emotional toll on Shanker and his family is immeasurable, and their immediate needs are overwhelming."

As of Friday morning, the fundraiser had generated $35,573 out of a $150,000 goal on 499 donations.

"Any contribution, big or small, will make a meaningful impact on their journey towards recovery," Kesavalu and Krishnamoorthy wrote.
