Eleanor Bavis Passes Away

Bavis was a graduate of Reading Memorial High School.

Eleanor R. (Porter) Bavis, 94, of Chelmsford, formerly of Billerica and Reading, died Saturday, March 24, at the Lowell General Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Lawrence P. Bavis.

Born in Boston, MA on December 9, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred L. and Annie K. “Catherine” (Clements) Porter. She was raised and attended school in Reading and was a graduate of Reading High School.

Eleanor worked for the Polaroid Corporation for many years. She loved spending time with her family, swimming and bird watching. Eleanor enjoyed and she excelled at sewing, crocheting and knitting. She has been a resident Chelmsford for the past 24 years.

Family members include her loving son, Lawrence P. Bavis, Jr. and his wife Kathie of Billerica; daughters, Sandra Bavis Savage and her husband Daniel of Carlisle and Lorraine Bavis Liakos and her husband Thomas of Chelmsford; 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; she was the sister of the late Olive Logan and Ronald Smith.

Her Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 3 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Church, 466 Boston Road in Billerica. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be held in Fox Hill Cemetery in Billerica. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in her memory to the charity of one’s choice.
