Election Results: Charter Changes Approved, Most Races Go Uncontested

Just over 11 percent of Reading's voters headed to the polls Tuesday.

Reading voters headed to the polls Tuesday, April 7 for the annual town election and cast their votes, only a few of which were in contested races.

Barry Berman captured a one-year term on the Board of Selectmen, topping candidate David Traniello 1,070 to 759.

In another contested race, Julianne Joyce (695) won a one-year seat on the School Committee, beating out candidates Nancy Docktor (464) and Steven Zessis (588).

Precinct 1 had the only contested race among Town Meeting members; there were 10 candidates for eight spots. In the end, John Arena, Roy Benjamin Jr., Roger D’Entremont, Mark Dockser, Sheila Mulroy, Paula Perry, Thomas Ryan and Anthony Torra secured seats.

Additionally, voters overwhelmingly approved, by a vote of 1,387 to 410, the proposed changes to the town’s charter.
